The Symbols Maintenance Wizard guides the user through the process of maintaining and updating the local Symbols Listing.
The Wizard has two modes of operation: Standard and Advanced.
In general, the Standard mode is used to add symbols for new markets.
The markets for which symbols will be initially downloaded are selected during the initial installation of the software, refer to the Select Markets step of the Startup Wizard help topic. These markets will be checked on the Symbols to Download list.
Use the market selectors on the Symbols to Download page in the Symbols Maintenance Wizard to add new markets, or to stop receiving symbols for a market or markets.
The Advanced mode is used for comprehensive maintenance of the symbols data-bases on the local PC.
Most of the selections in the Advanced mode will result in the deletion of the currently downloaded symbols data and their replacement with new symbols data. It is unlikely that most users will have to resort to the Advanced features of the Symbols Maintenance Wizard.
The standard Symbols Maintenance Wizard process has four consecutive screens: Welcome, Symbols to Download, Update in Progress... and Wizard is Complete.
From the Symbols to Download page users can toggle to the Additional Download Settings page by clicking the Advanced button. They can return to the Symbols to Download page by toggling the Advanced button.
The welcome screen advises that the wizard is running and prompts the user to click Next to run the Wizard.
At this point the user can also opt for the Advanced mode of operation, see below.
The second window prompts the user to select the groups of symbols to be affected by the wizard.
In Stock Investor, only the United States Market is currently available.

Use the scroll bar to view all the available national markets.
These groupings will change in the future as more markets are offered by the data providers.
At this point the user can also toggle the Advanced selection screen, see below.
Click Next to run the Wizard.
Advises the user to wait while the system is updated.
Advises when the update is complete, and provides a log detailing the symbols that have been affected.
The Advanced dialog allows the user to set specific maintenance parameters for the local Symbols Listing:

Select the check-boxes for the maintenance functions you want performed.
The functions will be performed only for the Markets selected in the Symbols to Download page. If less markets are selected than are currently on the PC, the symbols for those markets will be removed.
Note - The default for all four settings is Off (un-checked). Users must select the settings each time they want to do a new Advanced Symbols Update.
Checking this option will first remove (delete) all Symbols from your system data database, and then insert all symbols from the markets currently selected in the previous dialog.
This will clean up your current local symbols database and remove all expired symbols.
If you have already checked Refresh all Symbols this option will be disabled because the removal of all expired symbols will occur when all symbols are removed during the first step in the Refresh All Symbols process.
This process can be performed on its own.
Click Next to continue from either the Symbols to Download page or the Additional Download Settings page.
The Wizard will begin its download and distribution processes and the final two standard dialog boxes, Update in Progress... and Wizard is Complete, will display as the process is executed.
When the update is finished, click the Finish button to close the Wizard and return to normal Stock Investor operations.
