In Stock Investor the basic working platform is always a single, active work page displayed in the Stock Investor window.
The Stock Investor window will always have a common Menu Bar and Tool bar at its top margin, and can have the Page Monitor displayed or hidden along its right margin.
Any number of work pages can be open at one time, but only one will be the active work page. The currently active work page can be selected from either the Page Monitor list, or from the Window drop down menu in the Menu Bar.
Below is an example of a typical Stock Investor work page. There are a number of different types of pages depending on which Stock Investor function is currently active in the work area.
The example below is a price chart, but many of the user interface components, for example the Page Monitor, Windows controls, Navigation bar, Function bar, etc., are common to many Stock Investor work pages.
In addition, many system functions, for example Symbol Search and Printing, are common to many different types of pages, see Shared Utilities for more information.
Below is an example of a typical Stock Investor work space.
The Stock Investor specific tool bar is displayed underneath the menu bar.
The Page Monitor is displayed on the right margin, and the Navigation Bar is displayed on the left.
The work area, displaying the currently active work page, in this case a price chart, is in between. A function bar, specific to the type of active work page, displays in the upper margin of the work area and navigation bar.

The following paragraphs will describe and explain all of the common screen elements.
The Title Bar identifies the program as the Stock Investor and describes what is currently open in the work area.
The Menu Bar resembles a standard Windows® menu bar, but each drop-down menu contains Stock Investor commands.
A full description of the Menus and the commands contained in them are explained later in the Menu Bar section.
The Tool Bar commands contain the primary tools used in Stock Investor.
A full description of each tool’s drop-down menu and the commands contained in them are explained later in the Tool Bar section.
The Function Bar contains all of the tools used in by the current feature being worked on in Stock Investor.
In this example the charting function bar is deployed. Each Stock Investor feature has a slightly different function bar; usually they share some common functions, while other functions are specific to that particular feature.
A description of a typical function bar, and commands that are commonly found in them, is in the Function Bar section.
Each Stock Investor feature has a section describing its particular function bar and the specific components contained in it.
The standard window display buttons (Minimize, Maximize/Restore, Close) are in the extreme right hand corner of the active window.
Controls to Hide/Show the Navigation and Page Monitor Bars are nearby. The work area’s Close button is also located here.
The Page Monitor bar is displayed on the right margin of the work area, and shows all the work items currently open in the work area.
Note that the current page is highlighted in blue, and that the icons to the left of the words indicate the type of page that is open.
In Stock Investor Quote Pages, Price Charts, Portfolios, Scans, System Tests, Alerts, and various Reports can be displayed.
Clicking on either the words or icon will open that page in the work area.
This multipurpose display area displays details of currently selected tools, such as Indicators, Hi-Lites and Drawing Tools, or processes, such as data requests. It also contains a list of all Quote Pages as well as Stock Investor Three Step Trading links.
Tools that are commonly used can be grouped into a Favorites panel for more convenient retrieval and use.
Favorites is the default panel for price charts, while Stock Investor is the default panel for Stock Investor's Fundamental work page's three tabbed pages..
For more information, see the Access Panel topic in the Shared Utilities section.
The Remote Action Monitor displays a graphic when Stock Investor downloads or updates its data.
More information is available from the Remote Action Panel display in the Access Panel. The most detailed information about the data retrieval process is available in the Remote Action Window. It can be detached from the Remote Action Panel.
For a more detailed description and explanation, see the Remote Action Monitor, Panel and Window topics in the Shared Utilities section.
The work area displays the currently active work page.
Work pages can be created using any of Stock Investor’s functions, for example Quote Pages, Scans, Scan Results lists, Chart Pages, Portfolio Accounts, etc.
All changes to work pages occur in active pages in the work area.
The changes you make to work pages can be saved, and later reopened.
Icons indicating all currently open work pages will appear in the Page Monitor, the page that is currently active in the work area will be highlighted. Replace the currently active page in the work area with any of the open pages by clicking on its icon.
The status bar provides current information on the status of your data connection.
The Navigation Bar, located on the left margin of the work area, is a convenient, integrated directory tool containing links to many user created pages, as well as lists of all available symbols that can be selected and applied to charts and quote pages.
The collapsible group structure allows quick access to any of these items.
The Navigation Bar can display up to seven groupings and a search function.
Each of the seven groupings in the Navigation Bar has a Nav Bar button.
Click on the button and the group’s sectors or symbols are displayed beneath it. In some instances, a Symbol Tree displays all available symbols in a hierarchical tree based on markets and market sectors.
