Backup/Restore Wizard

Ross Jardine allows you to create a backup of your saved chart pages, portfolios, templates, trade strategies and quote lists.

Regularly backing up of your files will ensure that you retain all important trading information should you need to reinstall the Ross Jardine software for any reason.

To access this feature, select Backup/Restore Wizard from the Tools menu.

Note - You need to close all of the windows within Ross Jardine before you start using the Backup/Restore Wizard.

The first window of the wizard provides you with information about the feature:

Click on the Next button to see the options that are available.

Select Process

Select from the three Backup/Restore processes and click Next to proceed:

The Backup/Restore Wizard allows you to do the following:

Create a New Backup

Restore a Previous Backup

Maintain Existing Backups

Click on one of the links above for more information on each feature of the Backup/Restore Wizard.

Creating a New Backup

Select File Types

When Creating a New Backup, you will be presented with the following screen:

By default, all of the features are checked.

To remove an item from the backup, click on the checkbox to un-select the item.

Quote Pages

Any Quote Pages you have created

Chart Pages

Any Chart Pages you have created

Scans

Any Scans you have created including Scan Results

Portfolios

All your Portfolio Database Files, including Transactions and Accounts

Log Files

Log Files created during Download and Distribution

Download Files

Downloaded Data Files

Application Settings

User settings made in any of the Application Settings dialogs

Chart Defaults

Default settings the user has created and saved

Select the files that you wish to backup and click on the Next button.

Location for Backup File

Enter a name and location for the backup.

Enter the name you would like for this backup (the default uses today’s date), and a location for this backup (the default is a Backup folder under the Application folder).

Once you have entered these, click on the Next button to begin Backing up your files.

If the folder you have specified does not exist, then you will be prompted to create it:

Select a location and click on Yes in order to create the folder.

Run Backup

The Backup will then commence, and a progress indicator will display:

When the backup is finished, the Finish button will become enabled.

Click on this button to exit the Backup/Restore Wizard.

Restoring previously backed-up files

Once you have created a backup file, you can restore it at a later date.

After starting the Backup/Restore Wizard the function options dialog appears.

Select Restore a Previous Backup and then click OK.

Select Backup File to Use

Select the previously created backup file that will be used to restore the local settings:

Select the Backup file you wish to use to restore the files with, and click on the Next button.

Select File Types to be Restored

You will be asked which file types you wish to restore.

In Ross Jardine you can restore Chart Pages and/or Quote Pages.

Select the type of files that you would like to restore, and click on the Next button.

You will then be prompted to overwrite your existing files:

Click on Yes to restore the Backup, and No if you wish to cancel and not restore the backup file you have selected.

Restore System with Backup File

The Backup will then be restored, a progress indicator will display:

When the Restore is complete, the Finish button will become enabled.

Click on the Finish button to exit the Backup/Restore Wizard.

Maintaining Existing Backups

In the second dialog box of the Backup/Restore Wizard, select 3. Maintaining Existing Backups, to access the following screen:

If you wish to Edit a Backup, select the backup you wish to Edit from the list, and click on the Edit button. You will then be prompted for the new name of the backup:

Enter the new name of this backup and click on the OK button to Save, or Cancel to not save your changes. Any changes you make will take place immediately.

If you wish to remove a backup, select the backup you wish to remove from the list, and click on the Delete button. You will then be asked to confirm that you wish to delete the backup you have selected:

Select Yes to delete then backup, or No to cancel and return to the Maintain Existing Backups window.

Once you have completed maintaining your backups, click on the Finish button to exit the Backup/Restore Wizard.
