Stock Investor has a number of functions in which similar objects are created by the user, and then saved for future reference.
Examples include price charts customized and annotated by users, groups of related Quote Pages, groups of saved price charts, various different types of saved scanning parameters, different groups of option analysis types, etc.
Stock Investor has a standard formula for organizing these potentially large numbers of similar objects into groups and lists: the List Selection dialog box.
While the standard formula is used in a number of different locations in Stock Investor, see list below, the tool shares common features and a standard approach to organization and management.
An example of a typical Stock Investor List Selection box is the Chart Pages list selection dialog box:

The objective of all Stock Investor List Selection boxes is to provide a central location where all similar objects can be easily located and centrally managed. The dialog title bar will identify what type of objects the dialog box is managing.
The principle method of managing the large number of similar items is to create a number of groups, and then assign the individual objects to those groups.
In the case of the chart pages example, all saved price chart pages are accessible through the Chart Pages Selection box, and all chart pages can be opened, grouped, reassigned to a new group, renamed, deleted, etc. from this dialog.
The groups in the list are user defined.
Initially new objects are placed in a single, un-named group.
Click the Add Group button to create a new group. The user is prompted to enter a recognizable name:

Click OK and the new group will be added to the list.
The user must drag and drop the individual objects into each group:

First select the individual object, in this example the Cisco Daily price chart.
As you begin to drag the selected object, the cursor will change to a target.
Roll the cursor over the groups in the Group List, a gray line will identify which group the item can be dropped into.
When the correct group is highlighted, release the mouse button and drop the object into its new group.
To view the contents of each list, select the group and single mouse click. The contents of the group will display in the window on the right, in this case the Charts List.
A scroll bar will appear on the left margin of the window if the list is too big to be displayed.
Only empty groups can be deleted.
First select the Group to display its contents.
Next drag and drop all the individual objects into other groups, or delete each object using the Delete list management button.
When the group is empty, the Delete Group button will become active.
Click the Delete Group button to remove the group from the list.
The individual objects are managed in the list in the window on the right.
The list management command buttons manage the unique attributes of each object. Select an object in the list, and then a command button to do the following:
This will launch the selected object in the work area.
The names of individual objects, and the contents of the details text boxes which also appear in the list, can be edited using the Rename command button. Selecting this command opens the following dialog for price charts:

For the price chart example, both text boxes can be edited by the user.
However, some lists have data columns which are populated by the system, for example "Updated" uses the system date of the last update.
To remove an object from a list, select it and click Delete.
A confirmation dialog will appear confirming that you want to permanently remove the object from Stock Investor, click Yes to continue with the deletion.
