The Symbol details are in the left side of the chart window's Function Bar:
The symbol in the first text box is the current base symbol. It is the symbol displayed in the chart work area, or, if you have just added a new symbol into the text box, the symbol that will replace the current base symbol in the work area when you click the Go (refresh data) button.
The drop down text box contains the Stock Exchange for the current base symbol. Sometimes a security will be listed on two or more exchanges. In this case you can select the other exchange from the drop down list, when you click the Go button the security's data from the other exchange, including its price in the local currency, will replace the current chart.
The contents of the drop down list are predefined, the exchanges whose symbols will be displayed can be altered in the exchanges settings dialog box.
The description is the name associated with the security, often a company name. At any time you can left mouse click this label to open the Symbol Search function and look for a new symbol.
When you enter a symbol that is not recognized, a search link populates the description box:
The button will turn blue when selected with your cursor. Left mouse click to open the Symbol Search function. Note that until a suitable symbol is selected, the Go button is disabled.
The symbols for listed companies are rather straightforward, usually comprised of 3 letters from the company's name. The naming conventions governing the symbols for futures and other derivatives are more complicated, go to the Symbol Format help topic for more information.
Components of the Navigation
Bar that are derived from price data referenced by symbols will contain
a Symbol Tree for easy navigation through the large number of symbols
contained in each market.
Symbol Trees are data reference tools used by the Forex (Foreign Exchange), Futures, Indices, Stocks and Quote Page groups.
The common functionality is described in the Symbol Tree topic in the Common Utilities section of this Help.
The Symbol Tree is displayed by clicking on the navigation button 
in the function bar.
This button has a toggle effect, opening and closing the Symbol Tree on the left margin of the Chart Work area.
Click this button to open the Symbol Search function to search for a symbol in the Symbol Tree:
The common search functionality is used in many Stock Investor activities and is fully described in the Symbol Search topic in the Common Utilities section of this Help.
When the search dialog has located a new symbol, click OK on the search dialog and the symbol will open in the Symbol Tree. To open the symbol in a chart page, double left mouse click on the chart page button in the Symbol Tree.
The current status of your data service connection is displayed in the middle of the status bar:
When your service is down, or experiencing some difficulties, an appropriate error message will display in this status bar.
Double click on the Data Services Status bar to open the Connection Status Messages Log pop-up dialog box. This will list all of the messages for the current session which have appeared in the status bar.
To check or change the setting of your data connection, go to the Databases or Servers Application Settings.
The chart page work area displays the current base chart and all related charts, tool output and indicators.
The base chart is the financial instrument, sometimes referred to as the Main Data Series, which was created using the symbol in the Symbol box at the top left of the charting window.
All indicators, and those trendlines which also rely on data to calculate their display, are associated only with the base symbol's data. An indicator cannot be generated for an overlaid symbol.
You can add and delete any number of other trendlines, notes, and other tools output, as well as overlay the base symbol with other symbol's charts. However, if you try to delete the base symbol you will get the following error message:
You can create a new chart using the symbol, or if you want to display the new symbol in the same format as the current symbol, create a template using the current symbol and create a new chart using the new symbol and that template. Refer to the Templates help topic for more information on this convenient formatting technique.
To view more than one base symbol at a time, you must split the screens and add new charts to each window. See the Split Screens help topic for more information.

Overlaying a Chart on an existing Chart
The following topics describe and explain the display components of the Charts window:
The bar immediately below the Chart Tool Bar contains price and trade information about the base symbol.
The base symbol and date of the displayed data is indicated.
The open, high, low and closing prices are displayed, as is the volume for the day. The closing price is highlighted in yellow.
Check the Show Last checkbox if you want the trade data locked on the last day of trade.
Un-check the checkbox and the data displayed will change to show price data for the date where the mouse cursor is on the chart.
At the top left corner of the work area, all the components displayed in the work area are listed in a Legend.
The legend always begins with details of the base symbol's Price Chart. Underneath the base symbol charts' details are all the other components which have been added to the base symbol. In the example above, a Multiple Moving Average line was superimposed over the base symbol, and its settings are indicated.
When components are not overlaid on the base chart, but instead create in their own chart window, their legend will appear in the top left corner of that window.
Only components that use data in order to display are listed. For example drawing tools are not listed.
There may be any number of indicators, or overlaid charts of other symbols applied to each base symbol. Each will appear in this list in the top left hand corner of the Chart Page.
Right click the description line to select any of these objects. Handles will form around the description and on or along the object in the chart. Click Delete to remove the item.
Note You cannot select and delete the base symbol, you will get an error message.
The standard tool set for working with charts appears in the center-right of the chart window's Function Bar:
Most of the tools in this bar relate to how the data in the price chart is displayed. For a detailed description of each go to the Chart Display Tools topic.
The Action drop-down menu presents a choice of twelve charting commands.

Five functions control the chart and data display.
The chart display is affected by the Interval selector, and the zoom and fullscreen buttons.
Data for the chart and its indicators can be viewed in the Data window.

Drawing tools is the first of the price chart objects icons. These tool groups allow users to put various object into the charts to aid in analysis and interpretation.
Clicking the drawing tools icon 
will open a floating
palette of Stock Investor drawing
tools. Go to the Drawing Tools
help topic for a full description of these tools.
Indicators use the same financial data which is used to produce the base charts to produce a graphic representation of a mathematical formula. Some Indicators will produce graphics that resemble the charts themselves and are superimposed on the base symbol's chart.
Other Indicators create autonomous graphics, with little or no relationship to the appearance of the instrument's chart. They are inserted below the base symbol's chart in a separate Indicator's Display.

You can delete the indicator by right clicking on its description line and clicking delete in the pop-up menu.
ABC Trading Hi-Lites can be applied directly from this group.

The Favorites Access Panel contains icons from the Drawing Tools, Indicators and Hi-Lites groups.
The contents of the Favorites group is determined entirely by the user. Objects from the other three groups can be added or deleted at any time.
The icons function in the Favorites Access Panel in exactly the same manner as the did in their original access panel.
The Walk Through icon 
enables you to walk through the
chart one day at a time and have the data display as you go.
The features and functionality of the price axis, also known as the y-axis or vertical axis, is fully described in the Price Axis Properties help topic.
The features and functionality of the date or time axis, also known as the x-axis or horizontal axis, is fully described in the Date Axis Properties help topic.
Indicators which use the base symbol's data to create autonomous graphics, with little or no relationship to the appearance of the instrument's chart, are displayed in individual charts under the base symbols chart:

If there are more than one Indicator, they will create successive new displays if they cannot share the same display format.
The Vertical axis of many Indicators are not price based and the y-axis content can vary.
You can delete the indicator by right clicking on its description line and clicking delete in the pop-up menu.
Some indicators are sufficiently related to the chart display to be able to be superimposed on the chart itself. This is optional, they can also be displayed in there own individual Indicator display.
Some indicators are sufficiently related that they can be superimposed on each other, sharing the same indicator display, or on the same base symbols chart.
Use the scroll bar to move and display all the data available for the symbol.
The left facing triangle will shift the display all the way to the start of the data.
The right facing triangle will shift the display all the way to the end of the data, this is usually the default display.
To view data in between the two views, move the slider bar with your cursor.
The Trading and Calendar buttons toggle the daily interval display between trading days only, or all calendar days, including weekends and other gaps in data (generally holidays).
Click the reset button to return to the original default display of the data.
Click to increase the bar spacing of the chart. This will cause the chart to spread outwards, you will see less data in your chart window.
Use the F7 hotkey to perform this function.
Note On some PCs the F7 hotkey may have been allocated to a different use and be unavailable for this function.
Click to decrease the bar spacing of the chart. This will cause the chart to contract, you will see more data in your chart window but it will be more crowded.
Use the F8 hotkey to perform this function.
Note On some PCs the F8 hotkey may have been allocated to a different use and be unavailable for this function.
Click to Previous Symbol button to display the previous symbol in the current group.
If you have made changes to the current chart you will be asked if you want to save the changes.
Use the F3 hotkey to perform this function.
Note On some PCs the F3 hotkey may have been allocated to a different use and be unavailable for this function.
Click to Next Symbol button to display the next symbol in the current group.
If you have made changes to the current chart you will be asked if you want to save the changes.
Use the F4 hotkey to perform this function.
Note On some PCs the F4 hotkey may have been allocated to a different use and be unavailable for this function.
The screen may be split in order to simultaneously view number of base symbol charts.
Refer to the Split Screens help topic for more details.
The status bar informs you of the current process about to be performed or being performed:
Sometimes the message will include information on alternative methods of performing the task, in the example above it indicates that pressing F7 will also Increase the Bar Spacing of Chart.
In the top right hand corner of the Charts window are the windows controls:
Clicking the Nav button will open or close the Symbols Tree.
Click the Close button to close the chart window.
