Fundamental Data

The following fundamental data is displayed for each stock:

Market Capitalization

Calculated by multiplying the number of issued common stock by the current price, it represents the market value of the company's equity capital.

Net Income

Net Income is a company's total earnings (or profit).

Net income is calculated as a company's total revenues less the cost of doing business, depreciation, interest, taxes and other expenses.

Net Income is often referred to as "the bottom line" since net income is listed at the bottom of the income statement.

The measure is used to calculate Earnings Per Share, see below.

Operating Margin

The Operating Margin ratio is an indication of company's operating efficiency and overall performance..

Calculated as Operating Income divided by Net Sales.

Operating Income is the  profit realized from a business's own operations, but excluding operating expenses (such as cost of goods sold) and depreciation from gross income.

The result is expressed as a percentage represented the proportion of a company's revenue that is left over after paying for variable costs of production such as wages, raw materials, etc. The Operating Margin is often used to give a percentage amount of how much a company makes (before interest and taxes) on each dollar of sales. For example, if a company has an operating margin of 15%, this means that it makes $0.15 (before interest and taxes) for every dollar of sales.

Operating Margin is also known as "operating profit margin" or "net profit margin".

Beta

Beta us the measure of the volatility, or systematic risk, of a security or a portfolio in comparison to the market as a whole, it is also referred to as the "beta coefficient".

Beta is calculated using regression analysis of the tendency of a security's price to move with the market. A beta less than 1 means that the security will be less volatile than the market. A beta greater than 1 indicates that the security's price will be more volatile than the market. For example, a stock's with a beta of 1.2 is theoretically 20% more volatile than the market.

Companies in different sectors often share similar Beta values. For instance, many utilities stocks have a beta of less than 1 while most technology oriented stocks have a beta greater than 1, reflecting the sentiment that they offer the possibility of a higher rate of return but are more risky.

Earnings Per Share (EPS)

EPS serves as a key indicator of a company's profitability.

Calculated as Net Income (less Dividends on Preferred Stock) divided by Average Outstanding Shares, it represents the portion of a company's profit allocated to each outstanding share of common stock.

Earnings Per Share is an important variable in determining a share's price and it is a major component of the Price-to-Earnings (PE) ratio, see below.

Return on Equity (ROE)

Return on Equity is a measure of a corporation's profitability, specifically how much profit a company generates with the equity invested by shareholders.

ROE is calculated as Net Income divided by Shareholder's Equity

The ROE is useful for comparing the profitability of a company to that of other firms in the same industry.

Dividend Yield

The Dividend Yield ratio shows how much a company pays out in dividends each year relative to its share price.

It is calculated as annual Dividends per Share divided by Price per Share.

In the absence of any capital gains, the dividend yield is the return on investment for a stock.

Price to Earnings (PE)

The Price-to-Earnings (PE) ratio is a valuation ratio of a company's current share price compared to its per-share earnings.

It is calculated by dividing the current Market Value per Share (current stock price) by the Earnings Per Share figure, see above.

The P/E is sometimes referred to as the "multiple", because it shows how much investors are willing to pay per dollar of earnings.

Debt

Total Debt represents the sum of long and short term debt including all interest bearing agreements or instruments and capitalized lease obligations.

Shares Outstanding

The number of stock issued and tradable in the marketplace.
