Early Web and Thanksgiving Day Sales Make Black Friday Unimportant

Retailers anxious to grab a piece of consumers’ holiday pies are pushing the Christmas shopping season earlier and earlier. This year, Walmart has already started holiday sales on its website. Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Kohl’s will join Sears, Walmart and Target in offering in-store sales and discounts on Thanksgiving Day. Shoppers and retail employees complain about the practice of being open on the holiday, but more than 35 million people hit the sales on Thanksgiving 2012.
